As part of a larger program to evolve Altec’s design language, the team set out to create a series of audio products that would appeal to a wider range of customers and address users’ needs for a portable audio system. A project focus was SKU scalability; color, fabric and mesh grills were available as options for different retail channels. The IMT630 is an ultra portable Apple dock designed to align with users with active lifestyles. Its thin profile and battery power make it easy to transport and share music.
An addition to designing new product we developed Color Material Finish (CMF) strategies for multiple channels, and created a design standards system to align the U.S. and APAC offices. A high volume of appearance models were created to check product specifications and share with retailers. We worked closely with on and offshore vendors to source unique materials, such as acoustic fabrics and colors, and to develop production processes for current and future products.
Role: Responsible for product ID, product artwork, CMF documentation, and design support for engineering refinement.
