This program was initiated by Zink to develop a value-priced variant of their hAppy+ printer, a premium product offering that has an integrated touchscreen. Using the same print engine from the premium system, Essential developed a design that harmonized with the hAppy+ design language. We developed a unique product interaction in which users swipe (on the printer interface) to initiate a cutting sequence. Mechanical constrains limited the cutting mechanism to be engaged on the product itself rather than in the app, so we pushed to make it an memorable interaction and add to the character of the product.
